"Our focus for the Tasman Class was to create a 3rd world robust,
high performance gasifier for the over 2 billion people of the world in
need of power. It gives to these people access to large power, for
domestic or comercial demands, that we take for granted in the 1st
world"
This is a
high performance batch operated gasifier rated at 15kWe. It has been
designed for rural/remote and emergency applications for diverse and
harsh environments around the world. It has a emphasis on specific
sized and dried [<20% moisture] wood feedstock for optimum
performance in a combustion engine. It will accept a broader range of
feedstocks for process heating applications.
Design: Fluidyne Gasification New Zealand Manufacturer: (under license from the above) Gasification Australia Pty Ltd Gasifier Specifications* Gasifier type: Throated downdraft gasifier, batch operated. Footprint: 2.0 m x 1.05 m (79” x 41”) Frame height: 1.1 m (43”); excluding filter box and hopper Dry Weight: 580 kg Fuel: Block wood (not chips) from 20 to 50 mm mean size. Fuel feed rate: Up to 20 kg per hour. Reload frequency: Every 2 to 4 hours. [Dependant on electrical load] Cleanout frequency: After 20 hours run. Filter changes: After 20 hours run Gas cleaning system: Primary particulate removal via expansion box, baffle plate and cyclone system. Secondary particulate removal via dry gas filter utilising granular filter media (eg coarse sawdust or rice-husk). Gas cooling & moisture removal via condensing heat exchanger. Gas output: 45 Nm3 (maximum) per hour, suitable for IC engine with swept volume of approximately 3.0 litres and operation at 1500 / 1800 rpm. Turndown ratio: 1:3 Gas calorific value: Approx. 5 MJ/m3 Gas composition: (Fuel dependent; a guide only)
By-products: Low-grade activated carbon, ash and condensate water (typical pH 8.2); used filter media containing fine carbon and moisture. Condensate water should be filtered using the low-grade activated carbon prior to putting to drain. Filter media, ash and carbon by-products should be returned to soil as a soil conditioner. Expected service life: 10 years [minimum] Auxiliaries: Electrical consumption: Approx. 0.75kW at 220v 50Hz (for cooling fans). Startup system: Centrifugal suction fan and gas flare driven by either; mains power, battery or 4 stroke petrol engine. Instrumentation: System pressure drop manometer, system temperature display, carbon monoxide (CO) alarm. Spare parts pack:
*Specifications are subject to change. Actual gasifier performance and gas quality will depend upon fuel characteristics such as density and moisture content, hence these data should be used as a guide only.
